The PowerShares QQQ Transportation Committee for the Championship at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, CA (near Westlake) is one of many volunteer committees, that you can choose from. Since we really like the interaction with players, their families, officials and staff, we are definitely on the list of volunteers. Andreas will be one of the 2 Transportation Committee chairs, partnering up with Nick Bunkua again, just like in other tournaments (e.g. Northern Trust Open at Riviera Country Club) and last year's PSQQQ.
What do we do in the PowerShares QQQ Transportation Committee?
We provide transportation to professionals and VIP guests before, during and after the tournament. We are in charge of the inventory and control the distribution of official tournament courtesy vehicles. We also assists in the return of vehicles after the tournament. Drivers must be at least 25 years old and provide a valid driver’s license issued by the volunteer’s jurisdiction of residency.
Our peak times are Sunday/Monday/Tuesday of the weekend preceding the tournament and Sunday/Monday at the end of the tournament. Actual work load varies depending on arrivals and departures of the players, families, officials and staff. With no PGA TOUR Champions tournament being played the weekend prior to the PowerShares QQQ Championship, we may see players arrive Saturday (of Advance Week) already. We often don't get trip reservations until a few days prior to arrivals (sometimes just hours before a plane touches down at the airport), so it can get a little hectic at times. Our main airports will be LAX and Burbank, possibly some private airports in the 'Valley' as well.
Besides some really busy times, you will also experience some downtime due to the players' unpredictable schedule, so it is recommended that volunteers bring a book or tablet to pass time. If time allows, watching golf on the course during shift times may be a possibility.
The 2018 PowerShares QQQ Championship will be held from October 25 - 28, 2018 at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, CA. Volunteers are still welcome to register.
